Michael Owen has lauded Liverpool supporters and how they are ‘very, very supportive’ in comparison to other fans.
Over the weekend, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool scored a dramatic stoppage-time goal to beat helpless Tottenham 4-3 at Anfield.
The Reds had the game in the bag. They were 3-0 up inside 15 minutes and Spurs were staring at another abject away day.
But, that’s when the Liverpool players relaxed a little bit too much and put themselves in a situation where Richarlison was coming off the bench to score an equalising goal in stoppage-time.
That’s when the home side worked their magic and scored a minute later through Diogo Jota, with Michael Owen lauding the Liverpool fans and what they ‘very, very rarely’ do, as he told Premier League Productions (30/04/23 at 6:45 pm).
“I played against different teams and I played against most teams,” said Owen. “Liverpool fans are very, very supportive.
“There are some grounds you go to. If things aren’t going right, then you hear groans and boos towards the players.
“Very, very rarely do you hear Liverpool fans boo their own team off. Or get on the back of certain players. They are very supportive. You feel that late on in games when there is something magical happening, it feels like you are all together and they are willing you rather than demanding you. They are a special type of fans.”
ONE DEFEAT AT ANFIELD
Even though Liverpool are set to miss out on Champions League football after a pretty poor season, it’s not down to their home form.
Amid all their issues in defence and their midfield, only Leeds United, who could get relegated, have turned up to Merseyside and won.
So, for next season, it’s pretty obvious what needs to be worked on.
