Sami Khedira has dealt Wolves and West Ham United a transfer blow by admitting during an Instagram Live session that he has absolutely no interest in turning his back on Juventus this summer.
And who can blame the German World Cup winner for wanting to stay put?
At the age of 33, Khedira only has a limited shelf-life at the top level of the European game and, if he does stay at Juventus, you can all-but guarantee that he will succeed in adding another title or two to his already outstanding CV before he hangs up his boots.
The former Real Madrid midfielder could win a fifth straight Serie A title sooner rather than later, with Italian football set to resume next month.
Calciomercato suggested that West Ham and Wolverhampton Wanderers were keen on signing Khedira over the summer but even the opportunity to play Premier League football for the first time has not distracted the veteran from the task at hand.
“I have a contract until 2022 and I feel very good in Italy and at Juventus. I found a very strong team, with great hunger to win many titles,” Khedira explains.
“I want to win many titles with Juventus. I have no reason to change teams and accept another challenge. I am very very happy at Juventus and I am happy in Italy.”
Of course, it is not all down to Khedira himself.
Even Juventus have been hit hard by a financial crisis of unprecedented proportions and the dominant force of Italian football are expected to make efforts to reduce their wage bill in the off-season.
Calciomercato claimed recently that Juve could even look to terminate Khedira’s contract, saving themselves £5 million-a-year in wages in the process.
