Jonathan Woodgate has been singing the praises of Tottenham Hotspur loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The former Spurs centre-back is currently working with Carter-Vickers after being given the Bournemouth job until the end of the season.

Carter-Vickers, who has been on Tottenham’s books since he was a teenager, joined the South-Coast club on loan last summer.

The 23-year-old hasn’t made an appearance for the North Londoners since way back in 2017 under Mauricio Pochettino.

But Woodgate is a big fan of the USA international, describing him as a ‘very, very good defender’ who will get better.

He told The Echo: “I’ve been really impressed. Okay, he’s not the tallest but he’s a very, very good defender. His leap is good, he’s quick, he’s decent enough on the ball for me. What he does need to improve on is in the opposition box, scoring more goals, but I like him as a player, I like his personality.

“He wants to defend first and I think that’s important in this league. I’ve really enjoyed working with him. He hasn’t missed a minute and we’ve kept four clean sheets with him in the team.”

It’s high praise from someone who wasn’t a bad centre-back in his day and you could argue that Woodgate is actually one of the best coaches around to bring Carter-Vickers to the next level.

Having a long-term future at Tottenham looks very unlikely at this stage but there’s no reason why he can’t aspire to be a big Premier League player at some point in the future.
