Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has hailed the signing of Chelsea man Michy Batshuayi, describing the Belgium international as a ‘very, very good player’ on talkSPORT (10 September, 11.30am).

A man who scored five times in nine Premier League starts for Palace between January to June in 2019 has unfinished business at Selhurst Park.

And all the signs suggest that Batshuayi will soon reunite with Roy Hodgson in South London, becoming the natural-born goal-scorer that the Eagles boss has been crying out for all summer.

Sky claims that talks are underway regarding a deal that will see the Stamford Bridge bench-warmer move across London on a 12-month loan deal.

Meanwhile, speaking to RTBF, Batshuayi himself has hinted that a return to Palace is close to being completed.

“A good signing,” says Jordan, who is thrilled to see his former club close in on a potentially transformative addition after scoring just 31 times in 38 league games last season.

“He did well when he was here last time, he scored a lot of goals and obviously he is a very, very good player. With a lack of goals from (Christian) Benteke, (Batshuayi) will add to the lad from QPR (new £20 million signing Eberechi Eze).

“He will give Roy more options.”

Remarkably, Batshuayi started just one league game for Chelsea in 2019/20 and, after the arrival of Timo Werner the £33 million man has now fallen to fourth in Frank Lampard’s pecking order.

But the former Marseille starlet offered a timely reminder of his predatory instincts earlier this week, scoring two poacher’s efforts as Belgium thrashed Iceland 5-1 in the UEFA Nations League, including a sublime back-heel finish.
