Alan Shearer has praised Newcastle United midfielder Miguel Almiron on BBC Sport for his performance against Fulham away from home at Craven Cottage in London in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Newcastle legend believes that Almiron was “very, very good” for Eddie Howe’s side against the Cottagers.

Newcastle got the better of Fulham 4-1 in London.

Paraguay international attacking midfielder Almiron scored twice for the Magpies.

The 28-year-old found the back of the net first in the 33rd minute and then on 57 minutes.

Fulham played virtually the entire match with 10 men after Nathaniel Chalobah was sent off in the eighth minute for a a high challenge on Sean Longstaff.

Praise for Miguel Almiron for Newcastle United v Fulham

Shearer said: “Newcastle controlled the game as you would expect with Fulham going down to 10 men.

“It was the right decision, it was a terrible tackle from Chalobah. They scored some good goals and Almiron was very, very good. Good win and a good performance.”

Encouraging result

In our view, Newcastle United’s win against Fulham today was well deserved.

Yes, the Magpies had a one-man advantage for most of the game, but they still had to work to get the three points.

Newcastle have not exactly been great so far this season, but maybe things are starting to change now.

Eddie Howe’s side should aim for a top-10 finish in the Premier League table this season.
