Ian Wright described Leandro Trossard’s finish and goal during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday as ‘very underrated’.

The Arsenal legend added that it was a ‘fantastic finish’ from the Belgium international who started the game on the bench.

Leandro Trossard only came onto the pitch because Gabriel Martinelli had to go off injured during the first period.

But Arsenal’s January capture proved his worth and Wright loved every moment of it, as he told Premier League Productions (17/09/23 at 6:30 pm).

Never mind the finish from Trossard being underrated, it could be argued that he is underrated as a player.

It needs to be remembered that he wasn’t even first-choice in January, that was a certain blonde speedster now at Chelsea, but nonetheless, the move for the former Brighton star is proving to be a blessing in disguise.

“It was a short corner,” said Wright. “You want to pull them out of position, it’s great play here from Fabio Vieira to keep it moving, then look at how quickly they are passing it. You can’t get near them. Everyone is just one and two steps (ahead).

“It’s just perfect that they got the opportunity to do it at a corner when they are already in that third of the pitch. Passing the ball. Great movement from everybody, then Trossard, that’s a fantastic finish, it is coming across him on his left foot. It’s very underrated this finish. Brilliant.”

Trossard pushing for a start

From Trossard’s 26 games in Arsenal colours, and bear in mind he hasn’t started all of them, he has three goals and ten assists.

It would be interesting to see if the £90k-a-week star (Spotrac) was handed regular starts how he would fare because it wouldn’t be a surprise if he were to hit double figures in the Premier League alone.

Either way, as the fixture list piles up, Trossard is going to become a very important player because, just like against Everton, Mikel Arteta will be hoping he can step up for those very crucial moments.
