Kaveh Solhekol has claimed that Bruno Guimaraes is ‘quite surprised’ that Newcastle United are interested in him, as he told the Transfer Show on Sky Sports (26/01/22 at 5:05 pm).
The Sky reporter added that the Lyon midfielder is finding the possible lure to Newcastle ‘very, very tempting’.
Before the January transfer window opened, it was obvious to all that those at St James’ Park were going to be the main event this month.
Well, heading into the final few days of the window, all eyes are on the Magpies and how many more players they can tempt through their relegation-threatened doors.
If Newcastle manage to add Guimaraes to their ranks, then it would be a serious signal of intent because, added with themselves, Arsenal are also keen on the £34 million-rated player.
Nonetheless, this is what Solhekol had to say about Guimaraes’s viewpoint regarding Newcastle’s interest.
“My take on the situation is that it is up to the player,” said Solhekol. “My information is that the player was quite surprised when he found out about Newcastle’s interest.
“You also have to think about the fact that he is a midfielder that plays for Brazil. He has got the World Cup in Qatar to look forward to in December as well.
“He is aware that a lot of the top European clubs are interested in signing him.
“The information I have is that Newcastle United is very, very tempting for him.”

Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier have been the two names Eddie Howe has added to his ranks.
For some, they probably expected a lot more names to have come through the club’s doors.
But, at the end of the day, it’s about quality, not quantity for the North-East outfit.
But, one thing is for sure, before Monday’s deadline, Newcastle need to get a centre-back through their doors because they won’t cope with the current error-prone crop they have at the back.
