Tottenham Hotspur’s poor shots and shots allowed record under Nuno Espirito Santo in the Premier League so far this season has stunned some Spurs supporters on social media.
The north London outfit rank among the top-flight’s worst for shots taken and allowed over the opening six games. Tottenham started the campaign strongly in terms of points taken with nine from a possible nine. But have failed to take any over their next three fixtures.
Son-Heung Min’s goal at Arsenal on Sunday also marked Spurs’ first in three games, after successive 3-0 defeats. Seeing Nuno’s men slip from the top of the standings at the end of September to 11th, below the Gunners, who sat bottom without a win in their first three.

Tottenham struggling under Nuno
Tottenham have struggled for results under Nuno with the Portuguese’s side struggling to deliver at both ends of the pitch. Only Wolves (3) and Norwich City (2) have scored fewer goals than Spurs (4) and Southampton (4) after six games.
The north Londoners also rank 13th for goals allowed having shipped nine, all in their last three fixtures. But the problems for Nuno have also been greater than the overall output.
Per WhoScored, Spurs rank last of the 20 Premier League clubs for shots-per-game with just 9.3. Norwich take on average 10.2 per game, more than Brentford (9.8) who have scored eight, including three against Liverpool. Goal-shy Wolves, meanwhile, take on average 14.5, only Liverpool, Manchester City, Man United and West Ham average more.
Tottenham also rank third for shots allowed with 17 efforts defended per game to date. Only Leeds (18.7) and Newcastle (18) have given up more attempts and have both conceded 14 goals. Only Norwich (16) have allowed more over their league fixtures so far.
Fans react to poor shots record
Tottenham’s poor offensive and defensive shots record in the Premier League this season has stunned some supporters on social media. That’s because they have reacted by sharing their disbelief at the scale of their underperforming efforts to date.
Others, meanwhile, have questioned what more they could have expected by appointing Nuno. The Portuguese was not Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy’s first choice to replace Jose Mourinho. While others also noted how their struggles have come from a defensive style.
