Paul Merson told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (16/01/21 at 2:55 pm) that he was ‘shocked’ at Brighton’s decision to bench reported Arsenal target Yves Bissouma.
Whilst the decision was ‘very surprising’ for former Arsenal man Merson, he did make it clear that he is a ‘big fan’ of the combative midfielder.
Football London have reported that Arsenal may wait until the summer to try and secure the Brighton man’s signature, as he is desperate to make a switch to North London.
Even though Brighton won, decisions such as the one yesterday won’t help Bissouma’s mood, as Merson was asked to share his opinion on the matter before the game.
“Shocked, shocked,” said Merson. “You need people that are going to break the play up and win the ball back.
“I find it very surprising. I am a big fan of his.”

Bissouma has been one of Brighton’s standout performers this season and following his return from suspension yesterday, it will be interesting to see how he gets back into the XI now, especially with Saturday’s result.
This situation could be one that Arsenal keep their eye on because if Bissouma’s game time reduces over the coming weeks then they should take advantage of the situation.
Whilst Thomas Partey is bringing hope to Arsenal’s midfield, he hasn’t been fit enough to make a difference, and even with him in the XI, Mikel Arteta still requires more quality in that area.
