Michael Owen has claimed that he will be ‘very surprised’ if Liverpool fans don’t hear during these coming months that Mo Salah has signed a new contract, as he told Premier League Productions.
The former striker added that he ‘struggles’ to see where else Salah will go if he leaves Liverpool.
Given that the 29-year-old is at the peak of his power, if he was to depart Anfield this summer, then the Reds would demand stupid money.
On top of that, the wages the player is on would be another stumbling block for any potential buyers.
As things stand, nothing has been signed, but Owen feels it will happen, which Liverpool fans will love.
“But he’s not a normal player,” said Owen. “This is standard in any negations.
“This is his last or main contract, isn’t it? This will send him into retirement after this, so he has to get it right.
“I struggle to see him going anywhere else. I must admit. Where can you go? What are his options? Spain isn’t the league it was. I can’t see him wanting to go to France or Germany, for that matter.
“This is the best league in the world. He’s not going to go to Manchester City. Wherever he goes, it’s going to be a downward step. I can’t, for the life of me, see him going. I would be very, very surprised if we don’t hear, during these coming weeks and months, that he has put pen-to-paper.”
There is another club in the Premier League – Manchester City – that could pay Salah what he wanted.
But that would be one of the most controversial moves if it were to ever happen.
There is PSG, but what benefit will Salah get out of that? Do Barcelona have the money to sign him? No. Real Madrid are probably more focused on Kylian Mbappe.
Whilst Bayern Munich aren’t the type of team to do such deals, nor do Juventus have the money to bring Salah in.
That doesn’t leave the Egyptian flyer with many options, but in football, never rule anything out.
