Arsenal legend and pundit Ian Wright cannot believe Aston Villa did not have a plan to stop Trent Alexander-Arnold in their 3-0 defeat to Liverpool over the weekend.
Trent Alexander-Arnold ran riot on the afternoon, providing an assist to help his side claim all three points, and Wright, speaking on Wrighty’s House, thinks Aston Villa should have dealt with him better.
What has Ian Wright said about Aston Villa following their loss to Liverpool?
Discussing Villa’s inability to shut Alexander-Arnold down, Wright said: “I don’t know what the game plan was, man. How can you not stop Trent? Just gave Trent the keys. Very, very surprised with Villa.”
It has been a mix start to the new season for Unai Emery’s side, who now have two wins and two defeats after that loss to Liverpool.
They currently sit in 10th, which is not the worst position, but the Villans will want to do much better than that after coming seventh last term and qualifying for European football.
While that loss to Liverpool and their heavy defeat to Newcastle United at the start of the campaign would have been disappointing, they have had some good moments.

Emery’s men, for example, really impressed in their victory over Everton, beating Sean Dyche’s side 4-0.
Liverpool defeat not the worst
Of course Villa will not be happy with their loss to Liverpool and perhaps they could have dealt with Alexander-Arnold better.
However, losing to a team of the Reds’ quality is not the end of the world. Not a lot of people would have been expecting the Villans to get anything from that match.
After the international break, they face Crystal Palace at home, where there will obviously be a demand for them to do much better.
That is the sort of game Villa should be winning or at least be getting a point from.
