Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Premier League granted the club’s request to postpone Thursday’s game against Everton.

What’s the story?

Well, despite managing to field a team against Manchester United on Monday, Eddie Howe will now be able to rest his players.

Newcastle state that a combination of COVID-19 infections and injuries led them to make their request to the Premier League.

The Magpies also apologised to Everton as well as supporters from both sides for the inconvenience.

Following a good result against Manchester United, you might have felt the Toon Army would be disappointed to hear of this postponement.

However, with every game now crucial as Newcastle look to stay in the Premier League, this has come as welcome news.

Had it gone ahead, the Magpies would’ve been forced to play without Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser, all of whom suffered injuries against the Red Devils.

Newcastle given big boost by the Premier League

Of course, there’s nothing good about injuries and COVID-19 infections, although Howe will surely be delighted at this postponement.

It gives him a chance to rest his players, and also takes the Magpies closer to the January transfer window without wasting another chance to gain three points.

For example, if Amanda Staveley and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) manage to sign one or two quality players before the rearranged fixture takes place, Newcastle will obviously have a better chance of winning.

In years gone by, Howe would’ve been forced to play this game without three vital players, so in a weird way, the pandemic has actually helped Newcastle on this occasion.

Having said that, it will only be a boost if Newcastle win the rescheduled game.

For now, let’s see what the Newcastle fans on Twitter have been saying about the Premier League’s decision…
