Corinthians defender Robert Renan appears to be on his way to the Premier League after an English club made an ‘unbeatable’ offer for the reported Wolves and Manchester City target target, according to Goal.com.

As things stand, the identity of this ‘mystery club’ remains uncertain.

But we can hazard a guess at Wolverhampton Wanderers or Manchester City. According to Brazilian reporter Jorge Nicola, Renan’s agent travelled to England for talks a couple of weeks ago, with Wolves and City fighting German talent-spotters Borussia Dortmund for the teenager’s signature.

Dortmund, Nicola adds, recently made a bid in the region of £9 million. A sizeable sum for a teenager with only a handful of first-team appearances under his belt. But far less than the offer submitted by that as-yet unnamed Premier League outfit.

Wolves or Man City for Corinthians wonderkid Robert Renan?

“Corinthians has (received) an ‘unbeatable’ offer for Robert Renan,” Nicola explains.

“A very nice offer. I asked (my source) if the offer was superior to the 10 million euro one Borussia Dortmund made recently. He replied that it is much higher than 10 million euros.

“Given the financial difficulty and the need for cash flow, Corinthians may end up accepting this offer very soon.”

Goal back up these claims, insisting that the offer in question has arrived from England.

Given that 18-year-old Renan only made his first-team debut in April, this is a massive show of faith in an unproven talent. But, although the sample size is small, the Brazil U20 international has already showcased the kind of defensive instincts and technical ability that could secure him a future at the highest level.

“Robert, as soon as he entered the game, played a pass between lines. One of the most difficult passes to produce,” Corinthians coach Vitor Pereira beamed after Renan came off the bench to set up a goal in the 4-0 Copa do Brasil thrashing of Santos.

“This shows his confidence and quality. He has to grow but he has potential. He’s a player who will fly to other levels, without a doubt. He is fast, he is technical and he has personality.”
