Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Sven Botman will ‘very soon’ decide his future, amid speculation about a transfer to Newcastle United.
Amanda Staveley herself revealed in January that the big Netherlands defender was desperate to join the Magpies.
Newcastle remain fans of the Lille defender but their pursuit has become complicated by AC Milan’s entry into the race.
TalkSport presenter Jim White revealed on air that listeners should ‘keep an eye’ on Botman joining Newcastle, after a conversation with Jose Fonte, his Lille teammate.
And Romano has revealed to Caught Offside that a decision on his future will happen very shortly.
He said: “My feeling from sources is that it’s just a two-horse race between Newcastle and AC Milan for Sven Botman. Contacts are proceeding, very soon Botman and Lille will decide whether it will be AC Milan or Newcastle”
Newcastle completed their first signing of the summer window yesterday by securing a deal for Nick Pope.
Well, Eddie Howe had already signed Matt Targett during the window, but he spent the second half of last season on loan at St James’s Park and the club simply made it permanent.
But the window seems to be just heating up for United now and what an addition Botman could be.
Howe already signed one centre-back during his reign on Tyneside – Dan Burn – but plenty more recruits are needed to further transform the club and the Dutchman would be an excellent step in that direction.
