Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Callum Wilson has given an update on his injury situation.

Wilson went down against Manchester United with an injury a few months ago, and since then, he’s not been seen in a Newcastle shirt.

Luckily though, it sounds as though a return to action isn’t too far away for the striker. Wilson says that he’s due to start training on the pitch again soon, and that means that he’ll be back in the team sooner rather than later.

What’s been said?

Wilson responded when asked about his injury.

“We’re getting there slowly thank you. Making good progress, should be out on the pitches very soon and when that happens you know you should be close to a return, but I can’t give you a firm update as to when I’ll be back, because I still don’t know,” Wilson said.

Battle

Wilson may be back fit soon, but who knows when he’ll be back in the Newcastle team.

Things have changed a bit at St James’ Park since Wilson played his most recent game for the club, and it’s fair to say that he may struggle to get back into the team.

Newcastle have been on fire with Chris Wood up top, and while Wilson’s goal return is better than Wood’s, the New Zealander’s effect on the team is arguably greater.

Eddie Howe will certainly have a selection headache with Wood and Wilson.
