Garry Monk has claimed that Liverpool’s transfer deadline day move to sign Arthur Melo from Juventus on a season-long loan deal is a ‘very smart’ move, as he told Sky Sports News.

The former Premier League boss has praised Jurgen Klopp for the incoming deal and added that teams have to be ‘prepared’ for these situations.

Only a number of weeks, Liverpool weren’t going to add another midfielder to their ranks because Klopp was happy with what he had on his books, despite cries for more quality and cover in the middle of the mark.

But all of that changed on its head when they started the new Premier League season in an indifferent manner, and added with injuries to key players, like Thiago Alcantara.

That resulted in Klopp making a U-turn recently and now it’s a race against time to get a deal done before Thursday night’s cut-off point.

Nonetheless, it does seem as though the Reds will get Arthur through their doors and this is what Monk had to say on that possible loan deal.

“It’s smart from Liverpool,” said Monk. “It has been thrown upon a little bit this situation with needing a central-midfielder because of some of the injuries they have got.

“I think it’s very smart and shows good restraint because it can be very easy for them to buy certain players and overpay for them.

“But with Jurgen Klopp, it’s a smart way to go about it. This is a player we do like and he must be on their radar for them to like him, but we will do it in a way where we won’t jeopardise ourselves financially and also from the football side. And this lad can come to prove himself.

“You like to hope you are prepared, finished and done early. You try to be prepared, in terms of, things can happen in your squad very quickly. Like that Liverpool situation. That can happen.”

ARTHUR IS A TOP SIGNING FOR LIVERPOOL

The one player in world football Liverpool fans crave the most is a certain Jude Bellingham, but it’s pretty obvious that their chances of signing the England international will only happen next summer and beyond.

But this possible deal for Arthur is a very good deal and a player that will provide control, experience and bite to the club’s midfield.

Added with that, the Brazil international also has experience on the Champions League stage, so that adds another positive layer to this move.

It’s interesting that it is also a loan deal, first and foremost, so it will allow Liverpool to make a call on that player at the end of the season and sign him up for good if things go really well.
