Jamie Redknapp has said on Sky Sports that Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe really does remind him of Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.
Smith Rowe put in another excellent performance in an Arsenal shirt last night, as they beat Chelsea 1-0.
The playmaker scored the only goal of the night, but was a constant threat.
His ability to pick up the ball in tight spaces was very impressive, as was his first touch.
And Redknapp waxed lyrical about Smith Rowe after the game.
“He’s an exceptional player and he travels so well with the ball,” Redknapp said.
“There’s certain players, and you don’t want to compare them, but when Grealish has the ball at his feet they look very similar in the way they move. It’s a nightmare to defend against.
“He can go off either foot, he’s a very clever player. He starts the press. And he’s been the bright spark for the team. I was really impressed with Smith Rowe. He was the best player on the pitch today.”
Of course, Smith Rowe may have a way to go before he reaches Grealish’s level.
But the comparisons between the pair are starting to become obvious.
Both players like to take the ball in tight areas, and possess great skill in possession – they even wear similarly low socks!
Smith Rowe’s latest display just helps increase his reputation further, with the attacking midfielder now looking set to play a vital role at Arsenal over the coming years.
