Former England defender Ledley King is interested in seeing how the career of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah develops over the next couple of years.
Eddie Nketiah recently won his first Three Lions call-up, though he faces the impossible task of winning a place in Gareth Southgate’s team ahead of captain Harry Kane.
King, who has been speaking on Football Daily, is now keen to see how the Arsenal star gets on in his career.
What has Ledley King said about Eddie Nketiah?
On Nketiah, the Tottenham Hotspur legend said: “He’s different to some of the other strikers. I think he’s more cat-like, Ian Wright, as you mentioned, Jermain Defoe’s another one he reminds me of, very sharp in his movements. So he’s got something different to the other strikers.
“But we all know that Harry Kane’s the No.1 and that can be a bit disheartening when you’re playing for your club, scoring goals, but you know that there’s a man always in front of you at England. So it’s going to be interesting to see how his career develops over the next couple of years.”
Nketiah will be delighted with the start that he has made to this season.
The 24-year-old has played in all four of Arsenal’s Premier League games so far, scoring in two of them.
Eddie Nketiah can be Harry Kane’s deputy
While Kane remains in his prime, Nketiah is never going to start over the Bayern man for England. No other forward in Southgate’s squad will because of how reliable and consistent he is.

However, Nketiah is certainly good enough to provide cover for the former Tottenham star. As he has already shown this season, he is capable of scoring goals when given the opportunity.
The only real problem is his game time at Arsenal may be limited. With Gabriel Jesus fit again, you would expect the Brazilian to be Mikel Arteta’s No.1 striker now.
And if that does turn out to be the case and Nketiah struggles to find minutes at the Emirates, then there is a good chance that the £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) forward will be overlooked by Southgate.
