Gary Lineker has shared his honest opinion on the controversy surrounding Leeds and Karen Carney after her comments on Amazon Prime.

The former Chelsea winger and England international said that Marcelo Bielsa’s side ‘got promoted because of COVID’ when covering yesterday’s clash with West Brom.

The club’s official Twitter account posted her comments, using the fact that Leeds won the Championship by ten points to ridicule her statement.

You can see Lineker’s honest opinion of the situation below.

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani defended the club’s tweet, saying that Carney’s comments were ‘completely unnecessary and disrespectful’ on Twitter.

Other significant figures associated with Leeds, such as Ben White and Mateusz Klich, also waded in on the topic.

White tweeted some laughing emojis, while Klich posted an emoji throwing up to express his disagreement with the comments.

As the BBC state, Leeds have since condemned the abuse suffered by the 33-year-old, although the tweet under the spotlight remains on their Twitter account.

Additionally, The Guardian state that Leeds have invited Carney to the club’s training ground to do a TV report before the FA Cup clash with Crawley Town next week.

Whether Leeds, Radrizzani or anyone at Elland Road agrees with Carney or not, the tweet should certainly be deleted, and an official apology should be made in our view.
