Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react after Nantes posted a statement about Jean-Kevin Augustin, which has saddened some supporters.
The Ligue 1 outfit revealed that the 23-year-old is suffering from ‘long-COVID’ in which the symptoms of the virus have not yet left him.
Nantes wrote that, despite much hard work on his fitness, Augustin has not been able to recover all the physical means he had before testing positive.
This is simply heartbreaking news, as the 9-cap France Under-21 international’s career at the top level is at stake here.
Augustin has not played a second of football since November 28th, due to his struggles having initially contracted the deadly Coronavirus.
Were it not for the stoppage in football after the initial outbreak, Leeds could be the ones trying to help the Frenchman recover his strength.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side signed the former RB Leipzig striker on a loan deal in January 2020.
They were then obligated to pay £18 million if they won promotion to the Premier League before the end of June, as The Athletic state.
Significantly, due to the lockdown, the Championship season was played beyond June, with Leeds winning promotion in mid-July.

That helped them escape their obligation to buy Augustin, which would’ve been a relief seeing as he played just 48 minutes of football for Leeds, scoring no goals.
Regardless of that, the Paris-born forward is still a bright prospect, and it’s truly awful to see his career threatened like this.
Let’s see what the Leeds fans on Twitter have been saying after Nantes released their statement…
