Giuseppe Bellusci will miss the start of next season if he leaves Leeds for Italy.

Giuseppe Bellusci made a swift exit from Leeds United back to Italy last summer, but their failure to sell him permanently is coming back to bite them.

Leeds had been expecting to cash in the two million Euros (£1.7 million) from Empoli this summer with the Italian side expected to invoke a clause to sign him permanently.

This took a hit at the weekend as Empoli were relegated on the final day of the Serie A season, as Crotone pulled off a miracle escape at their expense.

Planet Empoli now report the chances of the club signing Bellusci permanently at £1.7 million are ‘very remote’.

Their relegation to Serie B hurts their finances, and Bellusci will be on the lookout for a new club.

Double blow

It has been an especially bad week for Bellusci, who yesterday was notified that he will face a suspension next season.

He picked up 15 bookings in Serie A in 2016/17, which means the 27-year-old has been handed a one game ban for his next spell in Italian football.

This will delay his start to next season at whichever Italian side he ends up at. Planet Empoli report it is not an issue they expect Empoli to have to deal with.
