Don Hutchison has claimed that French football is ‘very raw’ amid transfer rumours that Newcastle are trying to sign Hugo Ekitike from Reims.

The former midfielder also dropped in the name of Juventus defender, Merih Demiral, and added that Newcastle are ‘trying to build blocks to get ready for the massive signings in three years’, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

Just like the January transfer window, there will be a lot of eyes on what Newcastle get up to because this will be the first summer transfer led by their new Saudi owners.

Many are expecting Newcastle to bring in a number of new faces, but how much money will they actually throw at it and how far will they push that ambition button?

Well, only time will tell as Hutchison dropped Demiral and Ekitike’s names into the discussion when talking about Newcastle.

“There are rumours that Newcastle are in for Juventus’ Demiral, at the same time,” said Hutchison. “As well as Ekitike, French football is very raw.

“So, Newcastle are trying to build the building blocks to try and get ready for the massive, massive signings in three or four years.”

JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW HAS SET THE BLUEPRINT

From all the transfer windows this Saudi-led ownership takes charge of, none of them will match the pressure that was on the January window.

Not only was it the first transfer window for the Saudis, but it was also in the middle of the season, with a new manager and when the club was in a right mess.

Everyone knew the Magpies had the cash and needed the players, so from that perspective, life was going to be more difficult.

But from the loan signing of Matt Targett to the addition of Dan Burn, it proved to be a big success and it has now set the blueprint for transfer windows to come.
