Tottenham Hotspur ended the season with a victory – and it inadvertently helped Chelsea qualify for the Champions League.

Spurs were 2-1 down having given away two penalties, with Jamie Vardy drawing fouls from Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez to score twice from the spot.

Tottenham rallied late on though, first equalising with a Kasper Schmeichel own goal before Gareth Bale added a late brace.

Spurs secured Europa Conference League qualification, but their win gave bitter rivals Chelsea a helping hand.

Chelsea lost 2-1 at Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, but with Leicester losing to Spurs, the Blues made it into the top four.

Had Leicester won, Chelsea would have missed out – so Thomas Tuchel’s men are uncharacteristically grateful towards Spurs.

Playmaker Mason Mount commented on the situation, telling Match of the Day that it’s not often you see Tottenham doing anything to help Chelsea.

“It’s rare, it’s very rare that happens, but it happened today. We’ve secured Champions League, so it’s a big positive going into the final,” said Mount, who had a wry smile on his face as he reflected on Tottenham doing Chelsea a favour.

Chelsea may try and sign Harry Kane this summer, so don’t expect Spurs to go out of their way to help the Blues again any time soon!
