Danny Murphy says Tottenham Hotspur transfer target James Maddison has to leave Leicester City in the summer.

The talkSPORT pundit added that a ‘very rare’ situation is facing the English midfielder and that’s the possibility a player of his quality could get relegated.

Leicester City were smoked 5-3 by Fulham last time out, and with three league games remaining, they are sitting in the Premier League’s relegation zone and in a world of trouble.

It’s the small matter of facing Liverpool next, who have won six games on the bounce, and are pushing Manchester United for the top four.

There is every chance that the Foxes are doomed and out, if that happens, then someone like James Maddison could argue that he is one of the best players to have been relegated from the top-tier.

Well, Murphy, when discussing the future of Leicester players amid their relegation fight, certainly thinks that, as he told talkSPORT

“It is a very individual thing,” said Murphy. “Maddison is quite a unique one. Very rarely do you get a player of his quality who is going to get relegated. Very rare, not many times, as good as him.

“He is that good, so he has to go because he will have so many takers. It would be football suicide for him to stay, even with loyalty.”

MADDISON IS WHAT TOTTENHAM NEED

Tottenham have been long-term admirers of the £50 million star, who has ten league goals from 27 games this season after scoring 12 during the previous campaign.

Those are impressive numbers from the all-action midfielder who is exactly what Spurs need to bring some life into their team.

But, the issue with the London club is that nobody, not even Daniel Levy, knows who will be the club’s next manager, which puts a spanner in the works when they are trying to sign new players.
