Edu Gaspar has posted on his Instagram story that he is ‘very proud’ to hear that Arsenal’s rising star Marquinhos has been called up to Brazil’s squad for this month’s U20 World Cup.

The 20-year-old has been out on loan at Championship side Norwich City since January, and upon his return, he will be straight back into the thick of the action.

On March 20, some of football’s brightest and young stars will descend upon Argentina for the U20 World Cup and Marquinhos will don the colours of Brazil, as Arsenal posted on their website.

It’s a great chance for the versatile forward to enhance his game further and edge closer to becoming a possible regular for Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

For the past six months, he has been plying his trade in England’s second tier where he has scored and assisted once for a Norwich City side that has missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

Marquinhos has been labelled ‘special’ and a ‘wonderful talent‘ during his time at Carrow Road.

Nonetheless, when the news broke last night that he will represent Brazil U20s, the man who was responsible for bringing him to north London back in the summer, wrote on his IG story: ‘We are very proud’.

MARQUINHOS’ DEVELOPMENT

It will be interesting to see how Marquinhos is used by Arsenal next season and whether he will spend the season on loan again.

Some will use Gabriel Martinelli as an example and how Arteta was patient with the now thriving Brazil international.

But the slight difference with Martinelli is that when he started breaking through, Arsenal went out of Europe altogether and were getting back.

Now they are a Champions League team again, so from that perspective, the competition is now going to be a lot tougher for Marquinhos.
