Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on Roberto Firmino, ahead of Liverpool’s Merseyside derby with Everton.

Liverpool welcome their neighbours to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Firmino was absent in the 4-0 victory over Manchester United on Tuesday evening.

And although the Reds boss is hoping that Firmino can be available for selection against the Toffees, Klopp has revealed that the injury remains ‘very painful’ for the Brazil international.

He said, via Liverpool’s official website: “We hope so. Actually, we were a bit worried but the scan was fine. But it’s still very painful and that’s why there was no chance [against Man United].”

It’s testament to Liverpool’s insane squad that even without someone like Firmino, they’re still capable of smashing the Toffees.

Sadio Mane has been impressing in a number nine role these past few weeks, with Diogo Jota obviously already ahead of the former Hoffenheim attacker – a £29 million signing in 2015 – in Klopp’s pecking order.

The Reds’ strength in depth regarding attacking options, with several of them capable of playing in interchangeable roles, is truly ridiculous.

Firmino is one of the Premier League’s most talented and influential false nines, so the fact that they can still hammer someone like Manchester United 4-0 reflects that.

Even if the South American is unavailable for Frank Lampard’s side, you’d still massively fancy a home victory.
