After sealing an £85m move from Benfica, the pressure was on Darwin Nunez to hit the ground running at Liverpool.

The spotlight was firmly on the Uruguay international, especially as Sadio Mane had left for Bayern Munich, although he endured a difficult start following a red card against Crystal Palace.

Nunez saw his every move scrutinised, with one miss in training – yes, training – even going viral at one point.

However, the South American had someone to help him at Anfield.

Salah helped Nunez at Liverpool

Mohamed Salah endured a similar story to the above after swapping Basel for Chelsea in 2014.

The Egypt international struggled for goals under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge, moved to Italy to work on his game, and returned to the Premier League to shatter countless goalscoring records on Merseyside.

Salah used his experiences to help Nunez, and the 23-year-old seems very grateful.

Speaking to ESPN, the Liverpool No.27 said: “Salah is an excellent player and an excellent person. When I arrived in pre-season, I was talking to him, we had Fabinho as a translator. In those first few games I was very nervous.

“Things weren’t going my way. Then Mohamed called me to talk to me, he told me that I had to be calm because I was new, that I was just adapting to the club. He told me that he also went through that moment.”

Whatever Salah said to Nunez has certainly helped, as the Uruguayan now has two goals in his last three Premier League appearances, and looks to be finding his feet.

In total, the £85m man has scored five goals in 12 appearances so far this season.

Nunez can thrive at Liverpool

In our view, the potential of Nunez is frightening.

The Artigas-born marksman is a mountain of a striker, who looks tailor made for the rigours of the Premier League.

However, Nunez is also rapid.

In the 1-0 win over West Ham, he clocked a speed of 23.61mph in addition to scoring the winning goal, beating Kyle Walker’s record of 23.24mph to become the quickest Premier League player in history.

Once Nunez settles down in front of goal a bit, Liverpool have a potential monster of a striker on their hands.
