Speaking to The Athletic, Amanda Staveley has remarkably claimed that Sven Botman very much wants to join Newcastle United.
The Dutch defender was earmarked as the Magpies’ top defensive target in the January transfer window, but with Lille unwilling to sell their star centre-back no deal came to fruition.
Newcastle weren’t the only team to show an interest in Botman last month, Tottenham Hotspur were also strongly linked.
However, according to Staveley, the player wanted to join the Magpies, and she also claims that he’s still keen on a move to St James’ Park.
What’s been said?
Staveley shared what she knows about Botman.
“We had to encourage players – ‘we’ll be a safe place for you, we’ll deliver and grow’. Some desperately wanted to come to us, like Sven (Botman), who still does very much and has talked very openly about that,” Staveley said.

Get it done
Newcastle need to get this one over the line in the summer if they stay in the Premier League.
Botman is a fantastic defender, and if he’s open to a move to Newcastle, the Tyneside club would be fools not to capitalise on this opportunity.
Of course, with Tottenham also keen, United may not have a clear route to signing Botman, but if he wants to join the club then they may be able to get this one over the line.
This is a situation worth keeping an eye on.
