Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react after TEAMtalk revealed that the club are ready to make Kalvin Phillips the highest-paid player at Elland Road.

What’s the story?

Well, Leeds are keen to keep the Yorkshire Pirlo away from the Premier League’s biggest clubs, and are prepared to hand him a huge contract.

No exact figure is mentioned, although TEAMtalk believe it would see Rodrigo, Patrick Bamford and Raphinha’s salary leapfrogged.

Leeds are wary that Phillips is earning nowhere near as much as his England teammates do, and want to reflect his international status with higher wages.

TEAMtalk claim the 25-year-old hasn’t actually asked for improved terms, although both he and Leeds are aware of the interest in him.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham are all said to be interested in signing the Leeds No.23.

Leeds must tie Kalvin Phillips down ASAP

Why haven’t Leeds already done this?

Phillips has just won England Player of the Year – quite the prize – and his stock across Europe is rapidly rising.

His incredible efforts at EURO 2020 helped announce him to the rest of the planet, and he’s no longer Yorkshire’s best kept secret.

TEAMtalk state that his current earnings are below £70,000-a-week, the sum paid to Rodrigo, Bamford and Raphinha.

For a player like Phillips, who is quickly becoming a Premier League star, anything below £70,000-a-week simply isn’t enough, in context.

All of the aforementioned Premier League clubs interested in him could easily offer double that amount, so Leeds must get this sorted.

If anyone deserves to see their salary skyrocket, it’s Phillips.

For now, let’s see what the Leeds fans on Twitter have been saying about TEAMtalk‘s update…
