Alan Smith told Sky Sports during their live coverage of Arsenal’s win against Tottenham on Sunday that Gareth Bale gave Kieran Tierney ‘very little to worry about’.
The former striker suggested that Bale had to move down the middle in order to ‘get involved in the game’.
Arsenal were causing Spurs some serious problems down the left-hand side yesterday as both Bale and Doherty simply couldn’t cope.
Before Bale could be hooked off by Jose Mourinho, Smith shared how Bale was struggling to work his magic up against Tierney.
“At the start of this match you wondered how Tierney would do defensively against Bale,” said Smith.
“But he has been like a left-winger, Tierney. Bale giving him very little to worry about.
“He is just moving into the middle now the Welshman to try and get involved in this game.”

It wasn’t just the intent in which Tierney was attacking with that caused Spurs problems, but the intelligence in which Emile Smith Rowe was also playing with down that side.
During these difficult moments for Arsenal, both Smith Rowe and Tierney are stepping up to the plate for the Gunners.
There’s no doubt that Arsenal’s £25 million left-back (Sky Sports) is a player for the future, whilst Smith Rowe, alongside Bukayo Saka, is proving that money doesn’t need to be spent on a playmaker from abroad because they can do the job just as well.
