Simon Grayson told Sky Sports News (10/01/21 at 3:20 pm) that Leeds were dominated by Jake Hessenthaler and Jack Powell during their FA Cup defeat against Crawley Town on Sunday.
The former Championship boss shared that Leeds were ‘very lacklustre’ on the day, as they shipped three goals against the League Two outfit.
There were a number of senior players picked by Marcelo Bielsa, including the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Kalvin Phillips and Gjanni Alioski.
Grayson shared how Crawley’s midfield duo were ‘dominant’ and how they ‘always looked a threat’ against the Premier League outfit.
“They [Crawley] were in a good run of form,” said Grayson. “They had players who could certainly hurt them and they were certainly aware that Leeds were going to be a little bit understrength.
“They didn’t play all the big-hitters. Patrick Bamford, Stuart Dallas and a few others. But they were still pretty strong Leeds.
“The two lads in the middle of the pitch Hessenthaler and Powell were dominant. They always looked a threat from set-pieces and Leeds were always very lacklustre.”
It’s the defensive side of the game that will worry Leeds supporters because they are shipping a lot of goals this season.
There isn’t much wrong with Leeds going forward because they are one of the best teams to watch in the country in that regard.
But there needs to be clear improvements from the defensive side, as the fans will be pleased that they have that cushion in the Premier League, at this moment in time, if things do go wrong.
