Phil Hay has issued an interesting update on Leeds’ reported interest in Fiorentina midfielder Erick Pulgar in his Q&A session on Saturday.

The Chilean midfielder has been linked with a move to the Whites this summer, but it seems as though the links are slightly wide of the mark.

Indeed, Hay isn’t convinced that the Whites are as interested as the reports are making out, claiming that someone in Italy is trying to push forward some sort of agenda.

“Pulgar is an odd one. Someone in Florence seems very keen to push the line that he’s coming to Leeds. There were stories in the local Italian press in the summer that Leeds had agreed a fee for him – something Leeds denied (and clearly the move never happened),” Hay wrote.

“There were reports again earlier this month that he was saying his goodbyes, even though Leeds don’t seem to have moved to make it happen.

“They know who he is and there’s no doubt that he has talent but certainly in the summer it felt as if the rumour was stronger than the actual interest.”

It’s good to get this one cleared up.

It seems as though Leeds have looked into Pulgar as a player, as Hay stated they know who he is, but it doesn’t look as though it goes any further than that.

The 26-time Chile international would have been an interesting addition to Leeds’ squad, but this isn’t a deal that is seemingly on the cards in the near future.

Leeds are reportedly expecting a quiet window, and although Angus Kinnear says the Whites are ready to take any opportunities that present themselves, it doesn’t seem as though Pulgar is one of those.
