Robbie Keane has revealed that he is ‘very impressed’ by Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

In terms of number two options, there aren’t many better around in the Premier League than the Republic of Ireland international.

The 23-year-old produced a stunning performance in February to help Liverpool win the Carabao Cup – and even scored a penalty in the shootout victory against Chelsea.

However, that remains his most recent competitive appearance under Jurgen Klopp.

Unfortunately for the Irishman, Alisson is one of the world’s finest goalkeepers and regardless of Kelleher’s ability, he was always going to be second fiddle under Klopp this season.

Nevertheless, former Liverpool hitman Keane is a massive admirer of this compatriot and believes that he’s merely unlucky to be stuck behind such a colossal in the form of the Brazil stopper.

He told Liverpool’s official website: “I am definitely very impressed with him. We’ve been very lucky in the Irish team that we have really good goalkeepers. I’ve definitely been impressed with Caoimhín, just the way he plays – how comfortable, how calm he is in possession of the ball, he has a real presence about him.

“As I said before, if he didn’t have someone like Alisson in front of him, you’d imagine he possibly could be No.1.”

Another piece of misfortune for Kelleher is the fact that Alisson isn’t going anywhere.

In fact, he could even get better.

This is someone who’s still only 29 years of age which, in goalkeeper terms, means he has years left in him.

Unfortunately, Kelleher is probably going to have to leave Liverpool if he wants to play regular football.
