Roberto Martínez has praised rumoured Newcastle target Eden Hazard for playing at a ‘very high level’ for his country despite not being at his physical best, as quoted by AS.
You know the Newcastle transfer rumour mill is well underway when a player like Hazard is being linked with the club, as reported by AS.
Well, over the weekend, the Real Madrid man helped Belgium qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as they beat Estonia 3-1.
The 33-year-old wore the captain’s armband and played just over an hour for the Belgium Red Devils.
Martinez praised Hazard for being ‘very diligent’ during his game despite his lack of minutes.
“Eden Hazard has been very diligent, at a very high level,” said Martinez.
“It is true that physically he is not at the top and that has been a bit, but he has played a very good game (against Estonia).”

Hazard hasn’t started a league game for Madrid since September, as his move to Spain has been riddled with injuries and a lack of form.
He simply hasn’t been able to work his magic in La Liga, despite being a two-time Premier League winner in England.
Given these Newcastle and Hazard rumours, it does seem like one of those fantasy transfers that fans would like to see.
Whether it’s during the January transfer window, or later down the line, Newcastle will make that statement of intent signing.
And given Hazard’s situation in Madrid, don’t rule out a player like him being lured to the North East.
