Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, Allan Saint-Maximin, has posted on Instagram that he is ‘very happy’ to be back at Newcastle United after their final pre-season game of the summer.

Newcastle recorded a 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao in front of a packed-out St James’ Park crowd on Saturday, Callum Wilson and Saint-Maximin were the goalscorers for Eddie Howe’s side.

Joelinton played a ball in the channels from his own half, which Saint-Maximin latched onto, before he ran towards the goal to cooly slot home.

It ends a positive pre-season for the European-chasing side after wins over Gateshead, 1860 Munich, Burnley and Atlanta throughout the summer.

And now the fun begins because Newcastle will kick off the Premier League season with a home clash against newly-promoted Nottingham Forest.

Saint-Maximin will be expected to start that encounter and dazzle the home crowd, as he sent the following message to fans.

WILL SAINT-MAXIMIN LEAVE NEWCASTLE?

It’s an interesting one with Saint-Maximin because when the Saudi-led ownership took charge of Newcastle, many felt that one name that was going to be part of the long-term project was their all-action winger on the flanks.

However, there are suggestions that the Magpies are expecting offers for the 25-year-old from Tottenham and Chelsea and they will decide what to do depending on what is put on the table.

Let’s be honest, whilst Saint-Maximin can be inconsistent in front of goal, he is still a fan favourite and fans would be bitterly disappointed if he was sold.

This is the time Newcastle are now showcasing their ambition, starting to stick their chest out and show the footballing world that they are going to push towards the top of the league.

That’s probably why Howe has made Leicester City midfielder, James Maddison, a key transfer target – the Englishman scored 12 goals and supplied eight assists last season.

Therefore, losing Saint-Maximin wouldn’t be a great look, but it would be interesting to see how the fans react to it all.
