Nuno Espirito Santo praised a ‘very good’ Southampton side after Wolverhampton Wanderers snatched a draw at home to the Premier League high-flyers, while speaking to the club’s official website.
In one of the most intriguing clashes of the weekend, Wolves and the Saints played out an entertaining, equally-matched clash that could have gone either way at Molineux.
In the end, both sides were forced to settle for a creditable point after super-sub Pedro Neto reacted sharply to tap home with 15 minutes on the clock, cancelling out Theo Walcott’s first Southampton goal since January 2006.
Wolves would have moved level with the visitors in the table, however, if it wasn’t for some fine saves from goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, who channelled his inner-Iker Casillas with a stunning double stop to deny Nelson Semedo and Leander Dendoncker early on.
Southampton posed plenty of problems themselves, of course, with Stuart Armstrong and Che Adams impressing again, while Walcott missed a glorious chance to make it 2-0.
“In the first-half we wanted to play better, but Southampton are a very good team. They press very well, they played very good. We were better second-half, reacted well to the goal,” Nuno explained after a result which left Wolves ninth.

“We wanted to go for it and created chances. At the same time, we were very aggressive, on the moment that Southampton could counter attack, we stopped them. I’m happy and very proud of the boys.
“We played good. Southampton played good also, very difficult, very good players, very good manager. We matched them, we finished the game on the front foot and I’m very proud to the reaction of the goal.”
In nine Premier League games, Wolves have managed just nine goals so far, and a lack of ruthlessness cost them dear on Monday.
Raul Jimenez, one of the most gifted strikers in the division, barely had a chance worthy of the name and has hit the net just once in his last four matches.
