Nick Pope has raved about Tottenham Hotspur’s team, just days after being linked with a move to Jose Mourinho’s side, on BBC Sport.
The Daily Mail said last week that Tottenham were considering making a move for the Burnley goalkeeper in the summer, as Hugo Lloris’s replacement.
Spurs may well have been impressed by the England international’s display yesterday too, even though he conceded four times.
Pope pulled off a number of great stops in Tottenham’s 4-0 victory against the Clarets, as he stopped the scoreline from being even more humiliating.
And Pope was full of praise for Spurs after the game.
“They are a very good team and we made mistakes,” he said.
“The finishing was top drawer, I made a couple of saves but the shots they had were high level. Sometimes you get away with those, but higher up the quality of strikers you don’t as much.
“When we went forward, they seemed to come back at us twice as fast. The ball would turn over and they come back flying. You have to try and counteract that as best you can, it’s part of playing this team.”
Pope was certainly busier than Lloris yesterday, and his shot stopping ability was on full display.
The 28-year-old made a brilliant save from a long-range Harry Kane shot and also got down well to deny Heung-Min Son in the second half.
If Tottenham are to make a move for Pope the Mail say he will cost around £30 million, but that could turn out to be a bargain for a player of his undoubted quality.
