Michael Dawson praised Dejan Kulusevski for being ‘very good’ during Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday at Old Trafford, as he told Sky Sports Premier League.
The former Spurs centre-back added that Antonio Conte’s side deserved the penalty that was awarded to them in the first half.
It was Kulusevski, who joined the club during the January transfer window on-loan from Juventus, who created that chance for them.
The 21-year-old danced past challenges from Jason Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, before his cross was handled by Alex Telles in the penalty area.
Tottenham ambassador, Dawson, praised Kulusevski for that moment of magic in what was another defeat for Spurs.
“This opportunity, it’s a penalty, for me,” said Dawson. “It comes from the free-kick.
“Kulusevski, who I think has been very good for Spurs, gets on the ball and tries to create.
“He goes past (Sancho and Ronaldo) 3 v 1 (including Telles who handled in the area). Disappointing defending from Sancho. Telles has his arms out wide and it’s a penalty.”
Not only at Old Trafford was Kulusevski a positive for Spurs, but he has been ever since the club signed him up.
What’s even more impressive is that he has stood out during difficult moments for the Champions League-chasing side and he can rightfully claim that he is a starter for Antonio Conte.
It’s been a number of weeks since the Italian dethroned Lucas Moura from the XI, as Kulusevski is showcasing more of an edge and final third quality than the Brazilian.
Rodrigo Bentancur was the other January purchase for Conte, as the Italian, more so with his Swedish flyer, is proving that if he is backed in the summer market, then he can take the club forward.
