Ian Wright told Premier League Productions that he felt Ben White ‘did well’ on his Arsenal debut on Friday night.

Arsenal suffered a ‘worrying’ 2-0 defeat to newly-promoted Brentford, with their main striker Ivan Toney earning the Man of the Match award.

The former Newcastle player may not have got on the scoresheet or assisted, but he used his physicality to bring his teammates into the game and, from an ariel standpoint, he dominated the opposition.

But Wright thinks White faired well against Toney and that his distribution was ‘very good’ during the game.

“I think Ben White did well against Toney,” said Wright. “His distribution was very good.

“They are going to need to do something (in the transfer market) because if you are going to play against a promoted team.

“And you are not going to at least match them for the endeavour and the intensity that they are going to have then it’s going to be a long season for Arsenal. It’s worrying.”

Life at Arsenal hasn’t started off in the fashion White would have wanted and now the pressure is really on Mikel Arteta and Co.

It’s not going to be an easy test next week because the European champions are going to pay a visit to the Emirates.

If Toney can cause havoc to Arsenal’s backline then imagine what Romelu Lukaky might do given that he could debut, for a second time, in Chelsea colours.

This is where White needs to step up and show why the big bucks were paid for his talents.
