Peter Schmeichel has aimed a jibe at Liverpool by calling them a ‘very good domestic team’, as he reminded Jamie Carragher of Manchester United’s win over their rivals at Old Trafford last month.
Champions League football returned to action on Tuesday night and Schmeichel shared that he was ‘sad’ that Manchester United weren’t competing against the elite, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (06/09/22 at 7:10 pm).
The legendary goalkeeper works alongside Carragher for CBS and he was quick to mock the former defender at Cristiano Ronaldo recently snubbing the Sky Sports pundit.

That happened before Man United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool last month and Schmeichel was getting his laughs in regarding that moment.
Nonetheless, despite Man United losing their opening two Premier League matches under new boss Erik ten Hag, they picked things up by beating their old rivals and now they are on a four-game winning run.
That was pointed out by Schmeichel, who was also jibing at Liverpool being a ‘domestic team’ after winning the FA Cup and League Cup last season, after losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid in Paris.
“Manchester United have picked up again,” said Schmeichel. “I know they aren’t in the Champions League and we had a terrible start to the season.
“But our third game was against shall we call it a very good domestic team, who won two cups last year. They came to Old Trafford as big favourites, but we beat them.
“We played Arsenal as well, that was a big test because they won five games on the trot and we beat them. What I like about this Man United team is that they are fighting, running for lost causes and this guy Rashford has been tremendous. I am just so sad we aren’t in the Champions League because we are missing out on so much entertainment.”

WHAT CAN LIVERPOOL AND MAN UNITED ACHIEVE?
Before a ball was kicked this season, many would have backed Liverpool to, not just finish above Manchester United, but do it in a comfortable fashion.
Well, after six Premier League games, it’s ten Hag’s men sitting fifth in the table and three points ahead of the Merseyside giants.
Of course, there is a long way to go and it wouldn’t be a surprise if it’s full steam ahead from the Reds from now on and they go on some crazy-winning run.
If Manchester United return to the Champions League, then it’s a big thumbs up from the fans in regards to the process they want to go down.
But with Manchester City dominating the Premier League stage, another title heading towards the Etihad at the expense of Liverpool would just be another kick in the teeth for Klopp.
