Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that Joe Gelhardt is an excellent finisher.

Gelhardt joined Leeds from Wigan Athletic in the summer, and he has made a positive impression in their under-23 side.

The youngster is yet to make his senior debut for Leeds, but he has edged closer to getting a Premier League appearance in recent weeks.

The 18-year-old has been on the bench for Leeds in their last two matches.

And Bielsa suggested that the youngster looks to be a seriously accomplished finisher from what he has seen so far.

“He’s a player that always creates danger in a game,” he said. “He’s a player who’s more linked with the finalising of chances rather than the creation of them. He has resources to beat an opponent and he has a final shot, a finish that is very good.”

The hope is that Gelhardt can develop into a first-team regular for Leeds in future years.

The Whites invested heavily in their under 23 side this summer, and their recruitment is already paying off – with Leeds sitting top of the table.

Gelhardt has seven goals in 12 goals at development squad level, which has pushed him right into first-team contention.

Leeds are next in action against Wolves later this evening, when it remains to be seen whether Gelhardt will be involved again.
