Speaking on Peter Crouch’s Podcast, Alan Shearer has been discussing Harry Kane’s chances of breaking his Premier League scoring record.

Shearer, as we all know by now, is the Premier League’s greatest-ever goalscorer with 260 goals to his name, but Harry Kane is slowly but surely creeping up on him.

Shearer says that Kane has a great chance of breaking his record as long as he stays free of any serious injuries, but he also claims that Kane will have to be very fortunate to stay injury-free.

What’s been said?

Shearer spoke about Kane.

“I’m looking over my shoulder now, obviously at Harry, and he’s got a great chance of doing it,” Shearer said.

“Yeah, I do, you never know with injuries, he’s never had a serious injury and hopefully he doesn’t if you go through your career without a serious injury you’re very fortunate, particularly with the number of games he plays, the pace he plays at and how dynamic he is.”

“It does get harder as you get older, he’s 29 now isn’t he? I think he’s got a great opportunity, but I think he should sign for PSG or Real Madrid or something like that,” Shearer joked.

One bad tackle

Shearer is right about Kane, he has a great chance of breaking this record, but he’s also right about one bad injury derailing everything.

Football is a physical game, and sadly, the reality is that any player is just one bad tackle away from their career being altered.

Kane, luckily, hasn’t had a long-term injury to date, but as he enters his 30s, wear and tear could take hold and he could start to see some recurring problems.

Hopefully that isn’t the case, but as Shearer says, Kane will need a bit of luck if he’s going to break this record.
