Rafa Mir is making a huge impact in La Liga with Huesca coach Pacheta raving about the rocket-fuelled Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee, while speaking to Diario del Alto Aragon.
Three years after Wolves fought off competition from Real Madrid to land a talented young striker, Mir is finally starting to show why he was viewed, back then, as one of the most promising centre-forwards in European football.
After just four first-team appearances in Old Gold – and a forgettable stint at Nottingham Forest – the Spain U21 international has been performing like a man possessed at Huesca.
In total, Mir has scored 15 times in 31 matches, with braces in successive La Liga matches dragging the newly-promoted side out of the relegation zone and up to the dizzying heights of 16th place.
“He wants to succeed. He is going to get there, because he wants to,” said Pacheta, who has coaxed every ounce of quality out of his star man since taking over at Huesca in January.
“I don’t know how far his characteristics can take him, but he wants to succeed, he’s a very good boy, every morning he always arrives happy and then he has a winning mentality.
“The qualities his genetics have given him are fantastic.
“What we feel in the coaching staff is that if a player is good at driving forward, he should drive forward; if he is fast, you have to make him go at speed.
“Rafa is a player who goes at 35 kilometres an hour (21 mph). He is a very fast player and he is a player who is much more effective when facing the goal.”
The Express and Star suggested a few weeks ago that Wolves may be tempted to hand Mir a second chance at Molineux. No wonder, given that the 23-year-old has scored more goals in 2020/21 than Fabio Silva, Willian Jose, Pedro Neto, Daniel Podenca and Adama Traore combined.
But with reports linking Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Real Betis with a summer swoop, his future remains uncertain.
Although sources in Midlands are saying something different, La Razon insist that Wolves will sell if the right offer arrives.
