Torino are keen to sign Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira but know that he would be ‘very expensive’, sporting director Davide Vagnati told CronacaQui while also discussing Leicester City midfielder Dennis Praet.

After finishing just two places and five points above the Serie A relegation zone last season, the Granata are eyeing a number of big-name recruits as they look to replace a relegation battle with a European push in 2021.

In an era of unprecedented financial uncertainty, most clubs have been more than a little cautious this summer. But not Torino.

The Bulls have attacked the market like the proverbial china shop, spending big for Simone Verdi, Karol Linetty, Mergim Vojvoda and former AC Milan left-back Ricardo Rodriguez.

Whether there is enough left in the budget for Torreira, however, remains to be seen.

“Torreira and Praet? The first costs a lot, we must pay attention to the budget,” Vagnati says, adding that Arsenal’s Uruguay international will be ‘very expensive’.

Vagnati insists that Torino are hoping to sign a ‘director’, or play-maker, with the veteran Argentine international Lucas Biglia in his sights.

£18 million Leicester ace Praet is more a neat-and-tidy link man than a deep-lying distributor – a point Vagnati was keen to make.

“For now, we are looking for a director and he (Praet) is not one.”

Leicester will still be free to call on Praet next season, then. And the Belgian should have a big role to play with Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes under pressure to balance continental and European exploits.
