Taiwo Awoniyi has admitted that he is ‘very excited’ to face Liverpool this season.

The powerful Nigeria international is back in the Premier League after securing a transfer to Nottingham Forest this summer.

Last summer, Liverpool sold the player to Union Berlin in a £6.5 million transfer.

The 25-year-old never actually managed a competitive appearance under Jurgen Klopp due to repeated work permit problems, prior to his sale in 2021.

Awoniyi takes on his former club at The City Ground on September 22, an occasion that the big man says he is absolutely relishing.

He told All Nigeria Soccer, when asked who he’s most excited to face in the Premier League: “For me to be honest, I’ll say Liverpool because I’ve been there before. I know some of the players there. I’d be very excited to play against them.”

This is someone who can definitely hurt Klopp’s side, if given half the chance.

Awoniyi is already off the mark in the Premier League this season, scoring in the 1-0 victory over West Ham United earlier in August.

And having scored 15 times in the Bundesliga last term, well the German manager will definitely be wary.

Liverpool have some world-class defenders, like Virgil van Dijk for instance, but Klopp’s troops aren’t defending very well this season and Awoniyi is capable of forcing – and punishing – any error that his former teammates make next month.
