Ian Wright thinks Jorginho finds it ‘very difficult’ to play his game when the Arsenal midfielder is put under pressure by the opposition.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday when they were beaten 1-0 at Newcastle United – Patrice Evra told Gary Neville that Arsenal were ‘robbed’.
There were many controversial moments in the game, with Jorginho starting in the middle of the park, wearing the captain’s armband and playing instead of the absent Martin Odegaard.
Former Highbury striker Ian Wright spoke about Jorginho’s qualities on the ball and how he reacts when under pressure because he doesn’t feel he is able to cope, as he told Premier League Productions (04/11/23 at 5:25 pm).
The 31-year-old, who moved to Arsenal from Chelsea last January, didn’t have the best of games at St James’ Park and was hooked after 79 minutes for Fabio Vieira.
But Ian Wright made an interesting assessment of the midfielder before he could even kick a ball at the weekend.
Jorginho ‘under pressure’
“I don’t mind that,” said Wright about Jorginho captaining the team against Newcastle.
“I think he is somebody that if he has got a lot of bodies around him and there is a lot of pressure on him, then he does find it very difficult to get into his game.”

Fallout from defeat to Newcastle game
As you can imagine, the talk and debates are still raging from that Newcastle-Arsenal game which has taken the headlines from the weekend’s actions.
Arsenal even proceeded to release a statement about it, which was slammed by several pundits, including former England striker Michael Owen.
Those in north London have made their feelings clear, they feel that the goal should have been ruled out and they have been robbed.
Either way, it’s just another questionable week from officials who seem to be under the spotlight every week now.
