Ashley Williams told Match of the Day on BBC One that it’s ‘very difficult’ facing up against Leeds United striker, Patrick Bamford.
The former Wales international, who is now retired, would have come up against the thriving Leeds star during his latter days at Stoke and Bristol City.
On Friday night, Leeds recorded a 2-1 win at Fulham, with none other than Bamford being the star of the show with a goal and assist.
And both Williams, and firstly ex-Everton midfielder Leon Osman, praised him, especially after the England snub.
“It’s the perfect answer,” said Osman. “I mean what else can you do? The manager of the national team has decided to go another way and you have clearly stated how you feel – It’s been a great season by Patrick Bamford.”
Williams added: “I have played against him and he’s very difficult to play against. He’s quite selfless in his team play. He stretches the ball to allow some space for his midfield players.
“His hold-up play is very good and now he’s added those goals. He is a serious contender for a conversation as to whether he should be in that England squad.”

Bamford was pretty unlucky to miss out on an England spot and Aston Villa’s own manager, Dean Smith, even admitted that.
Many Leeds fans felt that Bamford should have been picked ahead of Ollie Watkins, but both did enough to earn that spot and Gareth Southgate should have selected both.
