Nathaniel Clyne has told Football Focus on BBC Sport that his time at Liverpool was ‘very difficult’ due to the number of injuries he had to deal with.

The 29-year-old left Liverpool in June 2020 when his contract expired after a tad over 100 appearances for the club.

Just like Danny Ings and Adam Lallana, the right-back was another unfortunate player whose time on Merseyside was ravaged with injuries.

Whilst Clyne had to watch on from the sidelines, the Reds went on to become European and Premier League champions, which only made the now-Crystal Palace player ‘more hungry’.

“It was very difficult being at a successful club like Liverpool and not being able to go out and train, to play and help the team do well.,” said Clyne.

“Almost sitting back and watching from the gym. It is very difficult. But injuries, it’s part and parcel of playing football and it’s all about what you do after.

“Seeing them winning and getting success from it also makes you more hungry to fight your way back and get yourself playing again.”

Clyne should look towards Lallana and Ings as inspiration that he can get back to his best if he can get regular minutes under his belt again.

It all started for the Englishman at Crystal Palace and going back home is now starting the road back to success for the South London-born player.
