Jonny Evans was left to rue a ‘clinical’ display from Tottenham Hotspur after Harry Kane inspired a 3-0 crushing of Leicester City in north London on Sunday, speaking to the Foxes’ official website.
If you looked at the statistics alone, you’d be forgiven for assuming Brendan Rodgers’s side were the side celebrating an impressive 3-0 win this weekend.
Leicester managed a remarkable 18 shots to Spurs’ six while dominating 70 per cent of possession on the soil of the 2019 European champions.
But while Hugo Lloris rolled back the years with an inspired performance at one end, it was Harry Kane who put the Foxes to the sword at the other, beating Kasper Schmeichel with two of the most dead-eyed finishes you will see all year after a James Justin own goal had gifted Tottenham an early lead.
“We’re disappointed with the result, conceding three goals,” former Manchester United ace Evans said.
“Talking about having possession and dominating the game, the scoreline shows that they are 3-0 winners and we have to move on.
“We tried to reflect on how we started the game, we probably started not as aggressive as what the manager would have liked.
“But once they go ahead, we were chasing a wee bit then and they’ve hit us on the counter-attack a couple of times and been very clinical.”
‘Clinical’ really is the word.
Jose Mourinho might have been lambasted throughout a storied managerial career for almost redefining the word ‘pragmatic’ but, if he has a striker as lethal as Kane to rely on, even a performance with just 30 per cent possession can be translated into a 3-0 triumph.
