Antonio Conte has taken a ‘very big shine’ to Oliver Skipp at Tottenham Hotspur, according to a journalist.
Skipp is now a fully-fledged member of Spurs’ senior squad after a stint with Norwich City last season.
Jose Mourinho loaned him to the Championship club – who ultimately won promotion – and that looks to have done wonders for the 21-year-old’s development.
He featured prominently under Nuno Espirito Santo prior to his sacking last month.
And he also managed 90 minutes in Conte’s first Premier League game, but was suspended for his second – the win over Leeds United.
And Alasdair Gold, who exclusively covers Tottenham for Football London, has claimed that the Italian manager has instantly become a fan of the Hotspur Way gem.
He said on YouTube: “Skipp over Winks was a big one. Winks didn’t play at all in Mura, but Conte’s said ‘nah Skippy’s my boy!’.
“I’ve been made very aware that he’s come in and immediately taken a very big shine to Oliver Skipp.”
Future captain?
Well, it certainly looks that way.
Mourinho back in 2019 tipped him to one day wear the armband in North London.
And given how quick Conte has taken to him, his attitude is clearly second to none.
It’s hard to believe that he’s only 21 sometimes, but Skipp clearly has a maturity beyond his years and Conte has evidently recognised that.
